The results from the Sonoma County Harvest Fair are in and…drum roll please… Imagery Estate Winery took home 8 Gold Medals! This puts us among the competition’s leaders with the most gold level awards. Even better, some of Imagery’s most expressive wines garnered recognition beyond Gold.
The ink-colored 2012 Lagrein won Double Gold. This means that the judges unanimously decided that our Lagrein was worthy of a Gold Medal. The Harvest Fair used a panel of 21 experts whose careers span education, hospitality, enology, and journalism. Dinner parties would be much easier if you could host 21 friends who emphatically agreed that a wine was excellent. Lagrein is an Italian varietal with crisp acid that melds well with its moderate tannins. Imagery’s Lagrein comes from the Upper Ridge Vineyard and boasts black cherry flavors.
One of Joe Benziger’s favorite food pairing wines is the 2013 Viognier, which earned the distinction of Best in Class. Joe didn’t even resort to bribing the judges with his famous pairing of Viognier and zesty chicken bake. Imagery’s Viogner is a unique white with bright acids, full body, and a lift of minerality. Aromatics of honeydew and violet might be enough to persuade your anti-White Wine friend to give this victorious Viognier a try.
Imagery’s Port also won Best of Class and is the perfect complement to the homemade desserts that you feel are deserving of an award. Our port is made from Petite Syrah, which creates a rich, complex wine showing classic port flavors of chocolate and dark fruit. Joe always proclaims the Imagery Port as the “ultimate nightcap” and now he has the Best in Class medal to back it up.
The above mentioned Imagery wines create a fun flight of White, Red, and Dessert that scored beyond Gold. Our other Gold Medal wines include Pallas Estate Merlot, Tusca Brava, Primitivo, Cabernet Franc, and Wow Red. The Harvest Fair is a timeless celebration of Sonoma County’s bounty and agricultural identity. The fun begins Friday evening October 5th and goes all weekend. We will be pouring in the Tasting Pavillon, so be sure to stop by and see the best Imagery has to offer.
